FAQ

What is a cleanroom?

A Cleanroom is defined in by Standards Australia in AS ISO 14644.1:2017 as a “room in which the concentration of airborne particles is controlled, and which is constructed and used in a manner to minimize the introduction, generation, and retention of particles inside the room, and in which other relevant parameters, e.g. temperature, humidity, and pressure, are controlled as necessary”.

Who uses cleanrooms?

They are used in most industries where small particles can affect manufacturing. These include industries such as aerospace, biotech, pharmaceutical, medical, critical processing manufacturing, fibre optics, military and many more.

Do I need a building permit?

Yes!

Arden’s experts will organise Building and Planning Permits if required for your cleanroom needs.

What types of cleanrooms are there?

  • Cleanrooms vary ranging from difference sizes, complexity, and classifications of ISO Class 1 – 9.
  • Soft Wall Cleanrooms – Flexible and practical approach to portable cleanrooms.
  • Hard Wall Cleanrooms – Have a rigid and stable outer casing for a more permanent fixed facility.
  • Modular Cleanrooms – Durable and rigid which can be built in existing space.

Cleanroom classifications

Cleanrooms are classified by how clean the air is based on a number of airborne particles of a certain size per cubic metre. The "cleanest" cleanroom is a class 1 and the "dirtiest" a class 9.
